Swedish ‘bikini cop’ who stopped pickpocket quits job after photo fame

Swedish police officer who stopped a pickpocket while wearing a bikini has quit her job to focus on a new career as a personal trainer.

Mikaela Kellner was dubbed the ‘bikini cop’ after a photo of her restraining a suspect and pinning him on the ground earlier this year was shared around the world.

The fitness fan was off-duty and sunbathing in a park when a man attempted to steal her friend’s mobile phone.

She gained 27,000 followers on Instagram after the photo went viral and has now reportedly decided to quit the police force after 11 years to concentrate on a new career as a personal trainer.

Kellner told Swedish tabloid newspaper Expressen that she was against a recent restructuring of the country’s police force.

“The main reason is that I’ve not felt comfortable with the recent reorganisation,” she explained [translated].

“I do not think personnel are being treated fairly, as they should.”

On her new found fame, she added: “[Being a police officer] has become a bit like a second identity, and I feel bad about not doing a good job.”

Recalling the incident back in July, she explained: “I just acted on instinct and didn’t think about it so much until after we had pinned him down.

“When I sat there I looked over at our other two friends who are not police officers and realised that it probably looked pretty funny. But I would have stepped in no matter my outfit.”

Meanwhile, this unlucky photobooth ‘thief’ was caught on camera after the machine took his mugshot.
