Jill Stein’s running mate: ‘I’m not in favor of the recount’

Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein’s running mate on Tuesday said he isn’t in support of her election recount efforts.

“I’m not in favor of the recount,” Ajamu Baraka told CNN on Tuesday.

Baraka said he told Stein the recounts were a “potentially dangerous move.”

“It would be seen as carrying the water for the Democrats,” he said.

Stein earlier this week filed for a recount in Pennsylvania.

Last week, she filed for a recount in Wisconsin and also plans to file for a recount in Michigan.

The three Rust Belt states have typically trended blue, voting for Obama in 2008 and 2012, but Donald Trump swept them in 2016, with Michigan seeing the tightest race with Hillary Clinton.

Clinton’s team has said they will participate in the Stein-led recount efforts.

Baraka wrote in a Facebook post Monday that he thinks Stein believes she has an obligation to “mount a challenge to the results in those three states,” but he explained his concerns with the decision.

“The recount effort has resulted in serious questions regarding the motivations of the recount that threatens to damage the standing and reputation of the Green party, its supporters, and activists,” he wrote.
